16-Week Semester: January – May 2026 or July – November 2026

Location: Online (Google Meet & Google Classroom)

Commitment: Approx. 1 hour per week

About the Role

We are always looking for volunteers who would enjoy hosting a weekly online book club for our students. Our first book club semester was incredibly successful, students loved the format, the discussions, and the chance to explore ideas together. We want to continue building on that momentum.

As a Book Club Host, you will meet with a small group of up to 6 Afghan girls and young women who have chosen this as an extracurricular activity. These students are fluent or near-fluent in English and are committed to attending weekly sessions for the full 16-week semester.

From experience, shorter texts, short stories, essays, articles, or poems tend to work best, but the choice of reading material is entirely yours to decide with your group.

Role Description

  • Encourage discussion, interpretation, creativity, and critical thinking
  • Create a relaxed, enjoyable environment centred on the love of literature
  • Help students explore themes, characters, and ideas without exams or pressure
  • Support thoughtful dialogue using open questions and active listening
  • No formal curriculum, sessions can be as structured or free-flowing as you prefer

This is not a test-based or academic class. The book club exists purely for imagination, reflection, connection, and the joy of reading.
